We will never get help from our government until the bastard sitting in the oval office stops making money on oil.

We have all been suckers of a grand plan contrived by a combination of Auto Manufacturers, Oil Companies and government officials starting back as far as the 1930's... when GM was instrumental in the removal of the Red Car for the express purpose of gaining roadways and customers for their cars.

Since then, they have run roughshod over us, planning the demand for us... telling us what kind of cars we want, rather than listening to us.

GM killed the Red Car, they Killed the Electric Car... and we LET them.

I've said it on the P1 Board and I'll say it here. We will never see a break in gas prices until demand goes down. And the only way demand will go down is if we force the issue of alternate fuels that cost LESS and cars that are more attractive in looks and price than what is currently available.

I urge everyone... if you need a car... buy USED and gas efficient. The less new cars auto manufacturers sell, the more reason they will have to make them the way WE want them.

The way I would like to see them is electric, running on solar grids or electric power not derived from coal... and getting 140 miles per charge. I'd like this car to cost 10,000 and have guaranteed (by our government) financing.

Until I see that, I'm not buying a new car.
I even signed a letter to this effect and sent it to 6 auto manufacturers. I told them that the first auto manufacturer that provides me what I want... I will buy a car from them.

Cars in London are also twice as energy efficient. They realized long ago we would be facing a gas crisis and began the necessary changes to aid it. Meanwhile, oil companies in the US said "no, we don't want to do that b/c we wouldn't make as much money". So the gov't said "ok" and here we are today.

I agree about the gas prices. It is causing me to get gas and tumms arent helping. I happen to drive a Ram truck and the cost of that bugger is over a hundred a week. I can't afford to trade it in for the smaller car which will no doubt skyrocket in price. America needs to stop driving for two days a week. I will bet money that the gas will come down. It is all about supply and demand, and right now, I demand that the prices they are supplying come down. This country is slowly being forced into a rich man poor man Two classes will their be, the rich and the poor, Paige, I will see you in the poor house, if not, May I shine your shoes???

It is not only our government that needs to step up, but us as a community. We need to start biking more, walking more. Stop using our cars so damn much. Sure, it's not practical when you live 30 minutes away from work, but when you just run down the street. What is stopping you from getting a bike and riding down there?
When you are sitting in your car outside a store...shut your car off. It's the little things.
Yes, our government needs to take some part in it. But what more can they do then urge inventors to make a car that is affordable AND gas free? What do we want? a magic wand? We need to start with ourselves first. STOP buying the gas guzzling SUVs. STOP running your car when you don't need to. WALK or BIKE.
